The Hawaii Community Development Authority announced its goals for state owned land along the Kaka’ako waterfront and Kewalo Basin. They are requesting proposals to redevelop the 36 acres of land at the Kaka’ako Waterfront park and the 29-acre harbor known as Kewalo Basin.

The vision for the area includes space for entertainment, retail, residential use and parking. They want an economically sustainable mixed-use development and a “live-work-play” atmosphere to partner with the University of Hawaii medical school adjacent to the property.

There is discussion about expanding the harbor to include more slips. A written intent to submit proposals is due by 4pm on February 2, 2005 along with a non-refundable fee of $1000. The chosen developer is expected to be chosen as early as September.
