Honolulu to get Nissan’s electric car

Honolulu, Hawaii has been named as one of the test markets for Nissan’s new electric car, the Leaf.  The cars will go on sale early next year and the car will be produced based on demand for the vehicle.  The induction of this car represents a continued step forward for the state meet their goal of reducing the use of imported fossil fuels.   The state has set a goal of getting 70% of their energy from renewable sources by 2030.

Sierra club names Honolulu as the second cleanest city in the world

The Sierra club lists Honolulu as the second most clean city in the entire world.  The points that really are making the difference for Honolulu, the Sierra club says, is that Honolulu has a light manufacturing industry and that the bus system is so extensive and there are dedicated bus lanes in the city.  They say that this helps with traffic but also the exhaust fumes that would permeate the city if we lacked a bus system.

The cleanest city in the world is Calgary, Canada
